Meanwhile a mother in India recently it was reported that she gave birth to a so-called ‘mermaid baby’.
Unfortunately the baby mermaid lived for four hours before it die.
The gender of the baby is difficult to know because of its legs were merged, the doctor declared that it was suffering from a rare condition called sirenomelia or “mermaid syndrome.”
Here’s the photo of Mermaid baby:
Muskura Bibi the mother of the child, born on Wednesday morning December 6, at Chittaranjan Deva Sadan Hospital in eastern India.
The mother could not afford to undergo pregnancy scans that’s why she only saw her baby’s condition when she finally gave birth. Child Specialist Dr. Sudip Saha said:
“The parents are a labour couple and had not sought proper medication during pregnancy due to lack of money. Lack of proper nutrition and improper blood circulation to the baby from the mother can create this kind of abnormality.”
Mermaid syndrome occurs to only one out of 100,000 births according to study that conducted in 1992.
Dr. Saha shared that the case was a first time in the state and a second-time occurrence in the country,
“The baby had a normal formation in upper part of the body but below the waist, its legs were fused together. The lower part was not developed completely. We learned the mother had not undergone ultrasound sonography throughout gestation.”
The “mermaid baby” only survived within 10 minutes, this is the first sirenomelia case happened in 2016.
MailOnline told that this is rare condition occurs when the umbilical cord fails to form arteries which then result to an insufficient blood suppy according to Lindsey:
“Sirenomelia is extremely fatal. There are no accounts of anyone with this condition surviving in the past. Most died within days of being born due to kidney and bladder failure.”
